Jellyling

Jellyling
This massive translucent creature appears to be a jellyfish the size of a horse, shuffling upright on large lobed tentacles. Smaller tentacles grow from its midsection like a halo.
Jellylings are bizarre amphibious creatures that resemble jellyfish walking on its tentacles. They have to breathe air, but still prefer moist and humid environments, such as swamps, jungles and even some caverns. They are omnivores with a taste for meat, preferring to eat warm-blooded prey above all others. Due to their slow, crawling gaits, they are ambush hunters, slowly creeping up undetected before snaring a victim in their paralytic tentacles and consuming it.
Jellylings are the mobile life stage of a two-part life cycle. Jellylings have sexes, and they reproduce by ejecting their sperm and eggs into still or slowly flowing water. The resulting polyps settle to the bottom of a body of water, forming a small structure similar to a coral. This sessile stage feeds on plankton and algae from the water and grows, as it does budding off small jellyfish, which grow into full sized jellylings and leave the water. Thus, even a single pair of jellylings can result in a huge bloom of these creatures in a relatively short period of time, and jellylings are transported accidentally from port to port by the movement of ballast water in ships. Fortunately, they are not cooperative hunters, and may fight each other over prey if two jellylings set eyes on the same victim.
Jellylings are highly disruptive to the ecology of most regions, as few creatures eat them and their populations can reach plague proportions quickly. A jellyling can recover easily from the most grievous wounds, making their control difficult. Acid or electrical damage can kill a jellyling, as can salt—although they can survive in ocean water, they are uncomfortable doing so, and any more saline water dries out their tissues with lethal results. Trolls consider jellylings delicious, and “farm” them by tearing off hunks of meat and letting the beasts recover.

Aura of Stinging Tentacles (Ex) All creatures within 10 feet of a jellyling must succeed a DC 14 Reflex save or take 1d6 points of slashing damage and be exposed to the jellyling’s paralysis. The save DC is Dexterity based.
Verminous Mind (Ex) Due to the alien thought patterns of a jellyling, it gains a +4 racial bonus on all saves against mind influencing effects.
Vulnerable to Salt (Ex) A handful of salt burns a jellyling as if it were acid, dealing 1d6 points of damage per use. Any round a jellyling takes damage from salt, its regeneration is suppressed.
